Training practice

We are a GP training practice and carry out research in conjunction with the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the Universities of Oxford and Southampton.

General practitioners

Parkside Family Practice is an accredited training practice part of the Oxford deanery. This means we offer support and training to the future GPs of the NHS. The practice is regularly inspected to ensure that we reach all the required standards for this level of teaching. We currently have two GP registrars, who are qualified doctors with several years of experience who are now training to become fully qualified and independent GPs. All GP registrars are trained under the supervision of a GP trainer.

In 2019, Dr Manraj Jheeta became an approved GP trainer at our practice having undertaken further training and acquired further qualifications for this role. He has previously trained physician associates for the University of Reading. He is also currently a tutor for medical students at the University of Oxford Medical School, a role he has held for many years.

Whilst training, the GP registrar may sit in during a patient consultation. When this occurs, we will always ask the patient in advance if they consent to this or whether they wish to see the GP or nurse on their own.

Occasionally our GP registrars and trainers may take video recordings of their consultations. This is a valuable training tool used only for our training purposes. We will always ask for patient’s consent prior to your appointment and provide a video consent form which needs to be signed beforehand. If you would prefer the consultation not to be recorded please inform reception, your consultation will not be affected in any way.

Medical students

We have a number of medical students from the University of Oxford who are attached to the surgery throughout the year. These students will not run clinics independently, and will always be directly supervised by Dr Jheeta.

Secondary school students

We allow secondary school students who are interested as medicine as a career, to have work experience placements with us. The students spend some time with the different administrative staff within the practice to help develop an understanding of how the surgery is run, and are able to talk to the healthcare team about their roles. These students will not sit in on GP consultations.

We are proud of our commitment to training the doctors and GPs of the future. If you have any questions regarding our role as a training practice, please speak to a member of staff.
